My Sprint Phone (Going going GONE!!)

Life of the Fox, Technology No Comments »

It’s funny on how much most of us think we NEED to have a mobile phone, to the point that we continue to spend exorbitant amounts, but for what?

I did a little analysis of my phone bill after receiving a nice little add-on cost from Sprint.  Most companies will typically award you a discount if you sign up for the auto payment.  Sprint decided to go the other route, they instead are going to penalize you by charging an extra $4 unless you sign up.  This would put me at roughly $55 a month after fees and what not.  Not to bad right?  It is when you consider that fact that when you look at your usage.

I am set up on the minimal plan, but with data (which I use far more).  Most of my minutes are not used, like 80-90% of them. Majority of that 20% has been solicitors, or bills, and a small amount of that is used for work or for talking with family or a friend.  I am finding this to be a complete waste of money, especially since my phone hardly if ever rings.

So just a heads up to everyone I will be switching to a home phone.  For the 1st month or so, most of the calls will go to my computer through SKYPE, as soon as I have the $169 I will be picking up a router based SKYPE phone.  Over the two years I would need to renew my contract this would save me $1115 over the two years. SKYPE has become highly reliable over the years, and is a cost effective choice for how much I ACTUALLY use the phone.  The cool thing is I can still check my messages with my iTouch with the Skype app and a wireless network.  Now if I can find a way to use my bluetooth with my iTouch and SKYPE app we would be all set.

How things have changed but are they different

Thousands of years ago, all the way up until now, the common world has looked for some type of attachment, and ideal that could help us gain some sense of purpose.  A man made imaginative of something perfect, and ideal, that one could long for, to give us purpose and meaning.  This has been known as religion. With this the rich and the powerful have used this as a means to gain more.  The Crusades… about land and property for example, to such recent pompous expectations as the Roman Pontiff, “It ALONE has the right to ensure the respect due to the Successors of Peter, and therefore, to protect the figure and personal identity of the Pope from the unauthorized use of his name and/or the papal coat of arms for ends and activities which have little or nothing to do with the Catholic Church.” (Emphasis added), as well as the numerous things I have encountered in my many years and experiences in faith based religion.

Recently there was a broadcast put out by CNN and Boing Boing

This is only a redirection of the same thing.  A person looking for an ideal.  Recently, Japan, has become know for it’s certain little oddities.  Strange game shows, anime, hentai, as well as technology.  Much of this is due to the huge decrease in satisfaction-al  relationships many Japanese have (this is of course based on numerous resources, not my own experience) due to over-work and less focus on the traditional family values, as well as the time one is willing to take to build a family under “SUPPORTING” a family.

This is only a precursor of what is to come in the US.  Cost of living increasingly goes up.  Families, unless they are in the upper echelon, can afford to survive on a single person income.  Many times both parental figures are typically working, than actually raising their family, except through TV or toys.

I know, as a single male, how difficult it is to survive on your own, without a housemate, a partner, or a wife.  I can’t really afford medical care, I drive over 60 miles a day for a “EH (Under 30,000)” paycheck.  How could I even imagine attempting to taking care of a spouse, neverless, a family.

Technology has become our out.  Things like “Love Plus”, Second Life, The Sims, IMVU, Facebook, Myspace as well as so many other programs, have become a substitute for something lacking in so many peoples lives, much like religion had become.

The difference between Religion and Technology, is at least technology admits it’s a lie, and that it is not real.

Here is just another example of what I am talking about.  If this doesn’t get you thinking…  All I am stumped with is… “HUH!”

What say you??

How to force your iPod Touch into restore mode

Technology No Comments »

Warning: This should be used as a last resort, restoring will erase all of your data

  1. Firstly, you must have the iPod Touch plugged into your computer while doing this.
  2. To start, press and hold the home and sleep/wake button, the power off option will appear but ignore it. When the apple logo appears let go of the sleep/wake button but keep holding the home button.
  3. After a few seconds you should see the connect to iTunes image (you can let go of the home button now).
  4. Open iTunes and it should recognize your iPod Touch, if not unplug your iPod and plug it back in again.
  5. Restore your iPod Touch by clicking the “Restore” button on iTunes.

Battlefield May Soon See Frickin’ Lasers

Technology No Comments »

death star.jpgWired reports:

Huge news for real-life ray guns: Electric lasers have hit battlefield strength for the first time — paving the way for energy weapons to go to war.

In recent test-blasts, Pentagon-researchers at Northrop Grumman managed to get its 105 kilowatts of power out of their laser — past the “100kW threshold [that] has been viewed traditionally as a proof of principle for ‘weapons grade’ power levels for high-energy lasers,” Northrop’s vice president of directed energy systems, Dan Wildt, said in a statement….

The battlefield-strength breakthrough is just one part in a larger military push to finally make laser weapons a reality, after decades of unfulfilled promises. The Army recently gave Boeing a $36 million contract to build a laser-equipped truck. Raytheon is set to start test-firing a mortar-zapper of its own. Darpa is funding a 150 kilowatt laser project that is meant to be fitted onto “tactical aircraft.”

Hmph. Call me old fashioned, but I still believe in lethality via high-velocity iron. Lasers sound cool enough, but furiously pushing to deploy them on the battlefield gives me this “someone watched too much Star Trek” vibe — like there’s a secret cabal of Pentagon geeks out there trying to make the Star Fleet a reality.

So the benefits are… what? Ammunition becomes obsolete, logistics simplify. IEDs will be safer to clear and incoming mortars easier to pluck from the skies. And no doubt the nifty -however pricey- airborne laser would be formidable, if it works as advertised.

But even Boeing, one of the technology’s most vociferous advocates, seems a bit dubious on the awesome factor for battlefield energy weapons, bragging:…the system also took a step toward demonstrating a counter-unmanned aerial vehicle capability by destroying two small unmanned aerial vehicles that were stationary on the ground.

Two parked UAVs eh? Suppose the broad-side of a barn was unavailable for targeting.

So color me skeptical. No doubt there’s some practical warfighting application here, but when I picture Star Wars-esque blaster fights, I can’t help but to picture smirking insurgents holding up their bathrooms mirrors as body armor. Though as a matter of record, I will gladly eat my words if Boeing discovers a way to fix these things to a shark’s head.

Most of you who have been around my blog, or any of the sites I have designed, have seen some of my graphical work.  For years I have been toying around with graphics.  Outside of any formal art classes from back in high school, everything I have learned has been self taught, as well a being a gift from my creator.  For years my mom, dad, and aunt have hassled me about wasting this God given talent that I have.  Friends have pointed out my natural gift and have always asked for assistance when working on designs themselves.  And it wasn’t until recently that I realized that I am completely wasting this gift, and settling for something far less that only gets me by.  So after thorough examination of myself, my gifts and what I want in life; as well as some encouragement from some people close to me I have decided to enroll myself into college for a degree in Graphic Design.  It is an online course, fully accredited.  The first year focuses on the graphical aspects of the course, which will give me a diploma, as well as the skills to begin work as a graphical artist.  Once I have the diploma I can then pursue my Associates and Bachelors degree in one of two fields.  Graphic Design or Interactive Graphical Media allowing me to progress further into the field.  Classes start on Oct 1st, so InshAllah (God Willing) my Federal Loans with pull through in enough time to purchase books, supplies, and possibly a Mac.  I could stick with the PC, which I will stick with if I need to, but most graphical artists use a Mac and are usually looking for someone with Mac experience.  If I purchase one later then I will have to repurchase most of the software again for the Mac OS.  So hopefully things will work out.  The other tough part will be working, and taking courses at the same time.  Fortunately with online courses you can work on your own schedule, as long as you meet the necessary requirements set by the school.  I have to say I am pretty excited, and looking for this yet another challenge in my life.

A New Vision for Dublin

Second Life, Technology, UToobage 1 Comment »

It appears that Dublin Ireland is currently underway of a new development project under the guidance of the Wasaki Corporation. But this development is not going to be taking place inside the city of Dublin but on Dublin Bay. And get this it’s going to be in the shape of…. ahhhh, you have to see it to believe it. Not only is this project taking place in RL Dublin but also in Second Lifes Dublin, sponsored by the same people.
